AMPLIFYING EVERY VOICE
I'm Laura Simpson, running for Community Education Council District 30. As a Jackson Heights parent and co-op board president, I'm fighting to ensure our schools serve all our diverse communities equitably.

MEET LAURA
I'm Laura Simpson, a parent and community leader in Jackson Heights, running for Community Education Council District 30. I believe in the power of our diverse communities and the importance of ensuring every child feels safe and valued in our schools.
As a parent raising two children in Jackson Heights and current President of my co-op board, I understand the vital importance of strong community leadership and advocacy that ensures every child can be themselves and thrive in our schools.
Since 2019, I've served on my building's board, leading major projects, improving safety, and enhancing stakeholder communication. This experience has taught me valuable lessons about governance, fiscal oversight, and ensuring all voices are heard and respected.
I'm passionate about ensuring District 30's schools serve all our communities equitably - throughout our vibrant neighborhoods from Jackson Heights to Sunnyside, Woodside to Corona, Astoria to Long Island City. Our district's diversity isn't just our strength - it's our foundation.
MY PLATFORM
Protecting our Diverse Student Population
I will stand firm in protecting our schools' commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. I will fight against political targeting of our immigrant and LGBTQ+ students, ensuring our schools remain safe havens for all children.
Fighting for Fair Funding
Every school and every child deserves excellence. I will advocate for equitable resource distribution across all District 30 communities, ensuring resources reach every neighborhood from Jackson Heights to LIC.
Dedicated to Serving Our Community
District 30’s diversity is our strength. I will work to ensure the voices of families from Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Woodside, Corona, East Elmhurst, Astoria and Long Island City are all represented both in our governance and our classrooms.
Schools Where Every Child Can Be Themselves
I will work to ensure every student feels safe, welcomed, and valued in our schools. Every child deserves to be authentically themselves, free from discrimination and with their unique needs supported.

SERVING DISTRICT 30
Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, Sunnyside, Woodside, Corona, Astoria and Long Island City. When we moved to this district in 2012, I was thrilled by the idea of living in this vibrant community and raising my children in these amazing schools. In these challenging times, local politics are key to preseving our schools and keeping our students and their families safe and supported, so that they can focus on learning. Community Education Councils serve as a vital defense for our students and our values. Join me in protecting the heart of our public education system.
